Early Life

Thabo Bester was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on June 13, 1986.

His mother’s name was Maria Mabaso, while the name of his father is unknown, but it was shared in an interview that Thabo was born out of sexual assault.

His mother shared;

“That is a heavy case. My cousin and I were going to [visit] my sister. But the bus left us, and we asked [someone] for a lift.

When we were near our road, that man nearly killed me; he assaulted me. Luckily, I did not die. That is how Thabo was born.”

Thabo and his mother shared a strained relationship; at a very young age, she left him with his grandmother, who raised him.

However, the relationship with his grandmother was cut short; Thabo Bester’s grandmother died when he was in his teenage years.

Career

Known as one of the most notorious criminals in South African history, his criminal activities and con artistry have made him a prominent figure in the country.

At the age of 19, Thabo was imprisoned for two years for fraud before breaking parole and raping two models and murdering Nomfundo Tiyhulu, his model girlfriend.

In 2011, He pleaded guilty to the rapes and the murder. He was later sentenced to life imprisonment.

Thabo Bester was imprisoned in Mangaung Correctional Centre, a private maximum-security prison run by the multinational security company G4S in South Africa.

Unfortunately, tragic news about his death was announced On May 3, 2022. It was said that there was a fire outbreak in his cell, which burnt him beyond recognition.

However, it was later gathered that his death was faked when he was sighted in a shopping mall in March 2023.

It was reported that his death was staged; Bester had faked his death in the fire and escaped from prison with the help of a celebrity doctor, Nandipha Magudumana.

An R100,000 bounty was placed on his head as a reward for anyone with information that could lead to Bester’s arrest and conviction.

After escaping prison, Thabo Bester was rearrested on Friday, April 7, 2023, alongside his lover, Dr Nandipah Magudumana.

The two were nabbed in Tanzania, 10 km from the Kenyan border.
