Early Life And Education
Sir Lucian Charles Grainge CBE was born 29 February 1960 in North London, London. He is the son of Cecil (previously Goldstein) and Jeanette (née Allen) Grainge. Grainge has an older brother named Nigel Grainge.
Lucian Grainge still needs to complete a traditional university education. After attending Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School for Boys in London, he entered the workforce at 18.
Career
Lucian Grainge began his career in the late 1970s as an A&R (Artists and Repertoire) staffer, scouting new talent, overseeing recording projects, and helping artists develop their careers. He later became the Managing Director of Polydor.
2001, Grainge was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Music UK. In 2005, he became the chairman of the Universal Music Group’s international division.
Grainge was then appointed CEO of Universal Music Group. In 2011, he became the Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Group, succeeding Doug Morris. That same year, UMG acquired EMI’s Recorded Music operations.
Throughout his career, Lucian Grainge has held increasingly senior leadership roles within the Universal Music Group, demonstrating his expertise and strategic vision in the music industry.
Personal Life
Lucian Grainge is a married man. In 1993, Grainge’s first wife, Samantha Berg, experienced complications while giving birth to their son, Elliot Grainge.
Tragically, she fell into a coma from which she never recovered, and she passed away in England in 2007.
Grainge later remarried in 2002, wedding his second wife, Caroline. Their daughter Alice was born in 2001.
