Nigerian politician and attorney Rotimi Akeredolu is now the governor of Ondo State.
Akeredolu presided over the Nigerian Bar Association in 2008 before entering politics.

Early Life
On July 21, 1956, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu was born. At this time, Rotimi is 66 years old.
He was born in Owo, Ondo State, to Lady Evang. Grace Akeredolu of the Igbotu Ese Odo Government Area and Rev. J.O. Ola Akeredolu of Owo.
At Owo’s Government School, Akeredolu started his official education. He later pursued his secondary faculty education and Higher School Certificate at Aquinas College in Akure, Loyola College in Ibadan, and Comprehensive High School in Ayetoro.
His name, Odunayo, translates to “Year of Happiness” in Yoruba. After graduating in 1977, he continued his legal studies at the University of Ife (now known as Obafemi Awolowo University). In 1978, he was admitted to the Nigerian Bar.
Career
Lawyer Akeredolu has held several positions with his professional association, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), including national publicity secretary from 1988–1989 and secretary of the NBA’s Ibadan department from 1985–1986.
He received the designation Senior Advance of Nigeria (SAN) in 1998.
On the platform of the era’s Action Congress of Nigeria, Akeredolu joined politics.
He was named the All Progressive Congress, APC’s (APC) primary State Chairman (temporary) and primary mentor for Ondo 2014.
He and other distinguished leaders guided the group to a triumphant Presidential Election in 2015.
In a fair, trustworthy, and open general election held in Ondo State in 2016, he was chosen as the candidate for governor.
On November 26, 2016, Akeredolu won the election for governor of Ondo State, and on Friday, February 24, 2017, he took office.
Personal Life
SAN Akeredolu is a devoted Christian who is happily married to Her Excellency Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. There are four kids from the marriage.
His interests include singing, studying, and garden tennis.
Nevertheless, the sad news of Rotimi Akeredolu’s departure as the former governor of Ondo State surfaced on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. At the age of 67, he bravely battled prostate cancer before passing away in peace.
The declared cause of his death was the consequences of his protracted battle with this difficult condition.
